What Betting Platform Data Reveals About the Sports Texans Wager On

New Jersey just closed October 2025 out with a record-breaking revenue stream, and sports betting was a huge contributor to that. On its own, the activity brought $116 million to the state, especially with the rise in fall sports amongst excited fans. This is but one example of just how much revenue Texas state is missing out on with the lack of efforts being made to legalize sports betting.

Of course, DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) betting platforms are still an option, but there is an array of sporting tournaments that many Texan fans would love to bet on.

However, with the lack of successful legislative efforts (despite multiple recent pushes to do so), many Texans need to opt for offshore platforms instead. In doing so, they can still enjoy wagering on their favorite sports teams and athletes. Sports betting expert Richard Presley’s guide for offshore betting sites helps narrow down the search for Texan sports bettors who opt for this route.

Presley highlights the top sites that hold well-respected global licenses, typically offer competitive odds for most sports types, ranging from the NFL season to European soccer, prioritising live betting and user-friendly designs. This has made it easier for Texans to actually enjoy wagering on specific sports, and there has been quite a trend in the types locals enjoy.

It is only natural that football reigns supreme here, both on professional and college levels. The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable football franchise in the NFL and are valued at over $12 billion, while the Houston Texans are worth over $7 billion, showcasing just how important football is in the Lone Star State.  With football being the state’s dominant sport, the sheer volume of huge games and other major events (such as the Super Bowl) further drives the influx of wagers. Throw college football into the mix, and the hype of local rivalries that add a personal connection to the game for many fans, and it further explains the momentum.

Arguably, there might be an even bigger interest in betting on local teams like the Texas Longhorns or Texas A&M Aggies as opposed to pro leagues due to the fierce in-state pride. In fact, the College Football Playoff is one of the events that has shown some of the biggest betting interest from locals. Coming in a close second spot is basketball. Texas’s love for basketball is no surprise, given the popularity of Texan NBA franchises like the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs.

These leagues offer punters fast-paced, high-scoring action alongside an extensive selection of pop betting options. With the long seasons, drama in between, and playoff intensity, the NBA makes for rather exciting in-game wagering. The MLB (Major League Baseball) teams, like the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, are another driver of local pride. Each season is long (similar to the NBA), has daily action, and is appealing to punters who like consistency. For example, the recent World Series runs from the Dodgers and Blue Jays make things more interesting and single-handedly boost wagering interest.

Lastly, there is the NHL with teams like the Dallas Stars and soccer tournaments with MLS teams, including FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo, that offer secondary betting markets. These are considered niche markets, but are actively growing each year and bringing in more interest. Specifically, the NHL playoffs are major events, and they will naturally see more punters flock toward them. Similarly, soccer has a global nature, with hype that cannot be ignored as major leagues like the Premier League begin to kick off. Overall, there is a common trend amongst all of these sports: Texans enjoy betting on local teams. This is a show of just how dedicated to sports the state is, and how locals want to be involved in any way they can.
