Apple’s new Siri AI is now live in the iOS 27 beta, assuming you’ve made it off the waitlist, and tucked away in its design is what looks like a not-so-subtle giveaway about this autumn’s iPhone 18 Pro. Sometimes the leaks come from supply chains. Sometimes Apple just leaves the clue sitting in plain sight in its own software.
The iPhone 18 Pro was meant to be a quiet year
Set expectations first. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to look a lot like last year’s 17 Pro. Same full-width camera plateau, same aluminium unibody, the lot. This was never shaping up to be a dramatic redesign.
That said, a few changes are rumoured. There’s a trio of design tweaks floating around, and one of them is the interesting one here: a smaller Dynamic Island, reportedly shrinking by around 35% compared to last year’s cutout. That’s a meaningful trim.
So what’s Siri got to do with it?
This is the clever part. Look at how Siri AI is shaped on a current iPhone and it’s this odd, stretched oval. Almost a pill. But fire up the same Siri AI on an iPad or a Mac and it’s the proper, classic orb. A clean sphere.
That mismatch is the tell. The most logical reason Siri looks like a squashed pill on the iPhone is that Apple is currently stretching it to fill the full width of today’s larger Dynamic Island. If it didn’t, the animation would look distinctly odd floating in the cutout. So the software is being bent to fit the hardware.
Which basically points straight at a smaller Island
Follow that logic through and it lines up neatly with the smaller Dynamic Island rumour. If the cutout shrinks this autumn, Siri no longer needs to be stretched into an oval to fill it. It can finally sit there as the round orb it clearly is on every other Apple device.
In other words, buy an iPhone 18 Pro this autumn and you’ll likely get Siri AI looking the way it was always meant to look, matching the iPad and Mac rather than that wide pill shape we’re stuck with for now. It’s a small thing, but it’s a tidy little confirmation hiding in Apple’s own beta. Nicely played.
