Samsung is finally ready to show off its answer to the Apple Vision Pro. At tonight’s Galaxy Event, the company is expected to reveal its long-teased “Project Moohan” headset, a high-end mixed reality device built to take on Apple’s most futuristic product yet.

Samsung says this launch marks the start of a “new era” for its AI-native devices, and the Moohan headset looks like the biggest step in that direction so far.

Samsung’s Project Moohan Looks Familiar – In a Good Way

Samsung actually teased Project Moohan earlier this year, and at first glance, it definitely gives off Vision Pro vibes.

The headset looks like a pair of sleek ski goggles, with a smooth front display, a soft fabric cushion around the face, and a single padded strap that tightens with a dial at the back. Like Apple’s Vision Pro, it also uses an external battery pack that sits in your pocket instead of on your head — a smart move for comfort.

While Samsung hasn’t shared final specs yet, it’s calling the headset lightweight and ergonomically designed for “maximum comfort.” We’ll have to wait for the full reveal to learn about its display resolution, battery life, and, the big one…. price.

Powered by Android XR, Built with Google and Qualcomm

Under the hood, Project Moohan runs on a brand-new operating system called Android XR — developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm together.

Android XR is built specifically for headsets and smart glasses, and it’s basically Google’s version of visionOS, the software that powers Apple’s Vision Pro.

With Android XR, Samsung’s headset will let users jump between full virtual reality and the real world using passthrough cameras. You’ll be able to adjust how “immersed” you are, similar to Apple’s digital crown feature that fades between environments.

Packed With AI and Google’s Best Apps

Here’s where Samsung plans to go beyond Apple: AI.

Project Moohan is designed to integrate directly with Gemini, Google’s powerful AI assistant. That means the headset can respond to voice commands, control settings, and even provide smart insights based on what you’re looking at.

And since this is a Google-powered device, all the big apps are here too:

  • YouTube on a giant virtual screen
  • Google Maps with immersive, 3D navigation
  • Chrome for multitasking across floating windows
  • Google Photos with support for 3D images

Basically, Samsung wants this headset to feel like your phone, but inside a virtual world.

The Galaxy Event Starts Tonight

Samsung’s big reveal happens tonight at 10:00 p.m. Eastern / 7:00 p.m. Pacific. That’s when we’ll finally see Project Moohan in full, complete with pricing, release timing, and, hopefully, a hands-on demo.

With Apple’s Vision Pro already setting the bar for premium mixed reality, all eyes are on Samsung to see if it can offer something more open, more affordable, or maybe even smarter.

In Closing…

Samsung’s Project Moohan could be the company’s most ambitious product in years, and its biggest push into the world of mixed reality since the old Gear VR days.

If it delivers on its promises of comfort, AI smarts, and deep Google integration, it might just give Apple’s Vision Pro some real competition.

We’ll find out tonight.
