Apple has promised the public betas of iOS 26 and its sibling OS updates would arrive sometime in July, and now it looks like tomorrow might finally be the day.
All Signs Point to July 23
We’ve been waiting. Mark Gurman (yes, that Gurman) reported earlier this month that Apple was targeting July 23 for the iOS 26 public beta. Now, a new leak might back that up.
Earlier today, a leaker with a strong track record posted the build numbers for beta 4 of Apple’s major operating systems. These builds are typically the final step before the public betas go live, and sure enough, developer beta 4 dropped just hours later.
Here are the claimed builds:
- iOS 26 & iPadOS 26: 23A5297i
- macOS 26: 25A5316i
- tvOS 26 & HomePod Software: 23J5316g
- watchOS 26: 23R5317g
- visionOS 26: 23M5300g
For longtime beta-watchers, this lines up almost perfectly with Apple’s usual playbook: internal testing, then developer beta, then public beta rollout roughly 24 hours later, if the builds are stable.
Why the Timing Makes Sense
Let’s be real: Apple said “July,” and we’re now in the final stretch of the month. Delaying any further would make things unusually tight ahead of the expected iPhone 17 launch in September. That means testers need time with these builds now, especially given how much new stuff is coming with iOS 26 (hello, Apple Intelligence?).
Plus, Apple’s been known to push public betas within a day or two of key developer releases, if they’re confident in the stability.
Should You Install It?
If the public beta does arrive tomorrow, the big question becomes: should you install it?
That depends. If you’re rocking an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, you’ll finally get a chance to test Apple Intelligence, Apple’s first real swing at generative AI baked into iOS. That alone might make the early bugs worth it.
Otherwise, if you’re just curious to see what’s new in Wallet, Messages, or even the redesigned Photos app, iOS 26 is shaping up to be a meaningful update even without the AI layer.
Final Thoughts
The stars are aligning. Developer beta 4 is out. Leaked build numbers check out. And tomorrow just happens to be the 23rd, the exact day Gurman flagged earlier.
We won’t know for sure until Apple hits the button, but right now, all signs are pointing to iOS 26 public beta launching tomorrow.
