iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e
The lower-cost phones are not Apple’s priority this cycle, and honestly we know fairly little about them beyond the fact that they are in development. No design changes are expected, with Apple sticking to a 6.3-inch display on the iPhone 18 and a 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 18e. One thing that reportedly is not improving is the screen tech, with a leaker claiming the iPhone 18e will not get ProMotion. Here is what the rumors suggest beyond that.
A20 Chip
The iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e could pick up Apple’s upcoming 2nm A20 chip. The iPhone Fold is expected to use the same A20, while the iPhone 18 Pro models could get a more powerful A20 Pro variant. For reference, the current A19 is built on a 3nm process, so 2nm is a long-awaited step down in node size. Expect performance and efficiency gains, which should translate into better battery life without giving up speed.
RAM
The standard iPhone 18 could be bumped to 12GB of RAM. If that happens, every iPhone 18 model, including the foldable, would ship with 12GB. That is a meaningful jump for headroom, especially with on-device AI features leaning harder on memory.
Front Camera

Modem
The iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e could adopt Apple’s next-generation C2 modem, bringing mmWave connectivity and finally phasing out Qualcomm modems entirely. That is a real upgrade for the 18e in particular, since its current C1X modem is limited to sub-6GHz speeds and does not support faster mmWave 5G.
The C2 also brings a privacy-focused Limit Precise Location setting, which cuts down the location data available to mobile networks. Instead of pinpointing your address, carriers might only see the neighborhood you are in. Notably, that feature is already available with the C1X in the iPhone 18e but not with the Qualcomm modem in the iPhone 17.
The Cost-Cutting Story (and Why It Matters)
Here is the part that should give you pause. Apple is reportedly “downgrading” the iPhone 18 to cut costs, driven by rising RAM prices and a desire to avoid raising the phone’s price. The company is said to be tightening costs across manufacturing, chips, memory, and more, with the goal of bringing the iPhone 18’s build cost closer to that of the iPhone 18e.
What that could actually mean for the phone in your hand:

The First Foldable iPhone

It opens book-style, with a smaller outer display and a larger, wider inner display, similar in concept to Google’s Pixel Fold or Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. It will not be as tall as those, though, because Apple is going with a wider 4:3 aspect ratio. Closed, the outer screen is around 5.5 inches; open, the inner display jumps to about 7.8 inches. It could be as thin as 4.5mm unfolded and around 9mm closed, though thickness rumors vary.
Apple is expected to use a titanium casing with a design built to minimize creasing. Because the phone is so thin, it is rumored to use Touch ID built into the side button (like the iPad Air and iPad mini) rather than Face ID. The price is the eye-watering part: the Fold could cost nearly twice as much as an iPhone 17 Pro Max, landing somewhere around $2,000.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max

Expect a similar overall design to the iPhone 17 Pro, with the triple-lens rear camera and camera plateau, but a slimmed-down Dynamic Island on the front. The Pro Max might be slightly thicker, Apple is considering a deep red color for 2026, and sizes are not expected to change.
