Huawei just took the wraps off its most futuristic device yet: the MateBook X Pro Fold, an ultra-slim foldable PC that blurs the line between laptop and tablet. With a design that echoes Apple’s minimalist aesthetic, it’s already drawing comparisons to Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPad or MacBook hybrid.
A Bold Leap into Foldables

Revealed in China today, the MateBook X Pro Fold features a 13-inch footprint when closed, but unfolds into a striking 18.3-inch dual-layer OLED display with 3.3K resolution and up to 1600 nits peak brightness. It’s powered by Huawei’s signature “water drop” hinge, allowing for a variety of use modes, fully flat like a tablet, angled like a laptop, or tented like a dual-screen workstation.
In a direct nod to Apple-like polish, Huawei markets the Fold as offering “ultimate aesthetics” and an “amazing opening and closing experience.” Based on press images and promotional footage, the attention to detail in the industrial design and UI transitions brings to mind Apple’s own product videos.
Apple-Like Features But First to Market
Huawei didn’t just replicate the look of Apple’s devices, it’s borrowing some of the speculative features as well. Apple is rumored to be working on a foldable product of its own, with a 13- to 18-inch flexible display that could ship as early as 2026 or 2027, depending on the leak. Some insiders call it a foldable iPad, while others claim it’s a MacBook with a full-screen keyboard. Either way, the MateBook Fold gives us an early glimpse of what Apple’s version might look like.
Innovative Input Options
The MateBook Fold ships with a detachable keyboard, but also includes an on-screen virtual keyboard that activates when users tap eight fingers onto the unfolded display. This unique approach allows it to be used either as a traditional clamshell notebook or a software-first tablet, with flexibility across orientations and tasks.
Slim, Light, and Premium
Despite its large display, Huawei’s foldable PC weighs just 2.5 pounds and measures 7.3mm thin when unfolded, expanding to 14.9mm when folded shut. It’s lighter and thinner than many premium laptops, and even rivals some iPads in sleekness, though it’s not quite as thin as Apple’s latest 13-inch iPad Pro.
Pricing and Availability
Huawei is launching the MateBook X Pro Fold exclusively in China, with pricing starting at 23,999 yuan (approx. $3,330 USD). There’s no word yet on global availability, and it’s not expected to be released in the United States due to ongoing trade restrictions.
The Bigger Picture
As Apple continues to evolve its product line toward more versatile, hybrid devices, Huawei’s MateBook Fold shows what’s possible today. And while Apple’s own foldable might still be a few years out, Huawei is planting its flag early in the next wave of computing, where one screen might soon do it all.
