To remove Enterprise Enrollment from a Chrome OS device (also known as “deprovisioning” the device), you generally need administrator privileges. The process is meant to remove management from devices that are enrolled in an organization, such as schools or businesses.

Here’s how you can attempt to remove Enterprise Enrollment:

Method 1: Use Developer Mode (For Personal Devices)

  1. Back up your data: Before proceeding, ensure that any important data is backed up as this process will wipe the device completely.
  2. Enter Developer Mode:
  • Turn off your Chrome OS device.
  • Press and hold the Esc + Refresh keys, then press the Power button. Release all the keys when the screen turns on.
  • On the screen that says “Chrome OS is missing or damaged,” press Ctrl + D to initiate Developer Mode.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to enable Developer Mode. This will wipe the local data on your Chromebook, and after it’s complete, the device will reboot into Developer Mode.
  1. Disable Enterprise Enrollment:
  • Once the device restarts, it will begin the process of wiping out the enrollment and any managed configurations.
  • Set up the Chromebook again as a personal device without enterprise management.

Note: If the device is re-enrolled in the enterprise management system once it reconnects to the internet, you may not be able to permanently remove the enrollment without administrator access.

Method 2: Contact the Administrator (For Enterprise Devices)

If the device is managed by an organization (school, company, etc.), the only legitimate way to remove Enterprise Enrollment is to contact the organization’s IT administrator. They will need to deprovision the device from the Google Admin Console.

Method 3: Powerwash the Chromebook (Limited Success for Managed Devices)

You can also try performing a factory reset using the Powerwash feature, but keep in mind this may not work if the device is strictly controlled by an enterprise.

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R.
  3. Click Restart.
  4. In the box that appears, click Powerwash > Continue.

If the device is enterprise-enrolled, Powerwashing may not remove the management. In such cases, the device will re-enroll when it connects to the internet.

Final Note:

If your Chrome OS device is owned and managed by an organization, you will likely need their permission or assistance to remove Enterprise Enrollment permanently. If the device is for personal use and you’re still encountering issues, consult with Google support for further assistance.
