The hit thriller Hijack officially returned today on Apple TV+, bringing Idris Elba back for an even bigger, bolder second season.

This time, the show swaps altitude for speed.

Season one famously trapped Elba’s character, Sam Nelson, on a hijacked commercial flight. Season two takes a sharp turn underground, setting its action aboard a train running through Berlin’s U-Bahn system. It’s a smart shift that keeps the formula familiar while avoiding a straight rehash of the first season.

Same Concept, New Pressure Cooker

If you enjoyed the first season, you’ll know the deal by now.

Hijack isn’t aiming for realism at all costs. It asks you to suspend your disbelief early—and rewards you with tight pacing, stylish set pieces, and constant escalation once you do.

The Berlin setting works surprisingly well. Confined spaces, limited exits, and the relentless forward motion of a train give the new season its own sense of momentum, even when the plot stretches credibility.

Weekly Release, No Full Binge (Yet)

Season two consists of eight episodes, with new installments dropping weekly every Wednesday.

That means the finale is scheduled to air on March 4. If you’re the type who prefers to binge in one sitting, this is one to bookmark and come back to later. Otherwise, the weekly drops keep the tension simmering instead of burning out all at once.

Is This the End of Hijack?

For now, yes, but maybe not forever.

The creators have suggested that while season two tells a complete story, they’ve kicked around ideas for a third and final chapter. Interestingly, that continuation could take the form of a feature-length movie rather than another full season.

Whether that happens will likely come down to how well season two performs.

Critics Are Split, Viewers Showed Up

Critical response to Hijack has always been mixed. Reviewers often praise the slick action and Elba’s commanding presence, while side-eyeing the increasingly outlandish plot turns.

But audiences didn’t seem to mind.

Back in 2023, season one became only the second Apple TV+ original to crack the Nielsen U.S. streaming charts—an achievement previously reserved for Ted Lasso. For a relatively new thriller, that’s no small feat.

How to Watch

Like all Apple originals, Hijack is included with an Apple TV+ subscription. You can stream it through the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV hardware, Android devices, Windows, game consoles, and more. It’s also available via Amazon Prime Video channels or as part of the Apple One bundle.

If season one pulled you in, season two doesn’t waste time getting back to business—just with different tracks, higher stakes, and the same relentless energy.
