iPhone users rejoice: thanks to the sounds-dirty-but-isn’t mobile Internet service and community, Fring, you can now make free VoWi-Fi calls from your iPhone. All you need is the free app and some Wi-Fi access.
Fring is not new, but it’s previously only been available for non-iPhone smartphones, such as Nokia’s Symbian phones, and Windows Mobile 5 and 6 handsets.
According to its corporate blog, Fring is the first mobile VoIP app publicly available for the iPhone. A special pre-release version can be downloaded at the Fring Web site. The development team is looking for feedback from users before they release final product, so users who try the beta and see room for improvement can say so and impact the final release.
PDAStreet.com also covered the news and offers more details in its story, “VoIP, Chat Come to the Fringing iPhone.”
