The Bank of Georgia has entered a transformative partnership with Cloudera, a leading hybrid data company, to overhaul its data management systems. This collaboration aims to centralize the bank’s vast customer and financial data, enabling faster product development, seamless operations, and advanced analytics capabilities.

A Bold Step Towards Data Modernization

At the heart of the initiative lies the installation of a state-of-the-art open data lakehouse, a scalable and centralized data repository. Designed to integrate diverse data streams, the lakehouse connects various sources, including the bank’s bustling digital platforms, which serve over 1.4 million active users and handle approximately two-thirds of all transactions.

This leap is a part of the bank’s broader digital strategy, executed with Cloudera’s implementation partner, HTS. The project leverages a robust suite of over 15 open-source tools, including Oracle, Elastic Search, and MongoDB, enabling the bank’s four-member DataOps team to streamline extract, load, and transform (ELT) processes.

Turbocharging Data Insights with Apache Spark

With Cloudera’s powerful cluster computing framework and Apache Spark’s in-memory data processing capabilities, the Bank of Georgia now has the ability to ingest and process larger, more complex datasets in real time. This technology empowers the bank to deliver a comprehensive 360-degree view of customer behavior, paving the way for hyper-personalized offers, tailored services, and precise product recommendations.

Driving Business Value Across the Board

The lakehouse’s impact extends beyond analytics. According to Vazha Pirtskhalaishvili, Head of DevOps and DataOps Engineering at the Bank of Georgia, the platform has been a game-changer for internal operations.

“The lakehouse is truly integrated from a data security and governance perspective, and it has taken integration pressure off our teams,” Pirtskhalaishvili stated. “This shift allows us to focus on creating value by serving data to the rest of the business.”
