Apple’s next wave: HomePod mini 2, faster Apple TV, and an AirTag with reach

Apple just pushed M5 to the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. Cool. But the rumor mill says there’s more coming before the year wraps. Think a smarter HomePod mini, a speedier Apple TV, and an AirTag upgrade that actually changes how you use it.

The near-term shortlist

HomePod mini 2

Small speaker, big glow up. Expect a newer chip inside – S9 or better – to line up with next year’s Apple Intelligence version of Siri. The N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 is in the mix, plus better sound, a second-gen Ultra Wideband chip for proximity tricks, and fresh colors like Red. If Apple wants the mini to be the affordable smart home anchor, this is the move.

Apple TV

The box gets faster. A17 Pro class silicon is rumored, with the same N1 and Wi-Fi 7 combo to prep for Apple Intelligence features next year. A built-in FaceTime camera keeps popping up on the roadmap, but it’s unclear if this is the cycle it lands. Either way, expect quicker apps, better gaming, and a cleaner Siri experience.

AirTag 2

Range is the headline – up to 3x longer item tracking versus today. Add a tougher, harder-to-muffle speaker and clearer low battery alerts. That combo makes AirTag more reliable for travel bags and anything that gets tossed around.

Late 2025 to early 2026 pipeline

  • Lower-cost MacBook with A18 Pro
Apple is testing a cheaper MacBook powered by A18 Pro. Some whispers say A19 Pro, but that feels optimistic. Late 2025 or early 2026 is the window.

  • Studio Display update
Mini-LED backlighting plus an A19 Pro chip for smarter processing. Same timing as the budget MacBook.

  • Pro Display XDR refresh
    A pro-grade panel with a built-in Center Stage camera so your desk doesn’t need a clamp-on solution.

Reading the room on Mac

If Apple had more M5 Macs for 2025, we likely would have seen them already. The iMac and Mac mini staying quiet suggests next year. Higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max are pointed at early 2026. MacBook Air and Mac Studio also look like 2026 plays, while Mac Pro remains a question mark.

Inventory tea leaves

HomePod mini and Apple TV stock is thinning at select Apple Stores worldwide. That usually happens before new models hit shelves. Not proof, but worth noting if you are on the fence.

Should you wait or buy now

  • HomePod mini – Wait if you care about smarter Siri and better sound. If you just need a cheap AirPlay speaker today, sales on the current model will likely pop.
  • Apple TV – Wait if you want a faster chip or you are curious about a potential camera. Buy now if you mainly need a smooth streaming box for Dolby Vision and arcade games.
  • AirTag – Travelers and parents may want to wait for the longer range. If you just need to tag keys, the current 4-pack often dips to great prices.

Closing…

Apple’s end-of-year playbook usually includes a few quiet drops. This year’s shortlist looks practical: make the small speaker smarter, the TV box faster, and the tracker stronger. Bigger swings – new displays and the budget MacBook – sit just over the horizon. If Apple times this right, the ecosystem gets faster, more connected, and a lot harder to leave.
