Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone just got a little more real and it might look more like the Pixel Fold than you’d expect.

According to a new report from a credible Chinese leaker, the next-gen foldable iPhone prototype includes a hole-punch selfie camera on its outer display, with a second under-display camera tucked inside. The leak, shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, points to a refined engineering unit that’s “slightly smaller” than an earlier version but keeps the same ultra-wide aspect ratio: 14.6:1 outside, 14.1:1 inside.

Yes, you read that right, Apple’s foldable is expected to have a book-style design, featuring a 7.8-inch internal screen that folds flat with no visible crease, alongside a 5.5-inch external panel for one-handed use. And if this leak holds, the Touch ID sensor is moving to the side button, echoing designs seen in older iPads and newer iPhones without Face ID.

Familiar Design, New Territory for Apple

While Apple has yet to confirm the device exists, this latest claim lines up with an earlier report from Korean blogger yeux1122, who also described a foldable iPhone with a hole-punch camera and a form factor resembling current foldables like the Pixel Fold or Galaxy Z Fold5.

One big caveat? Face ID reportedly won’t make the cut. It’s unclear if the front camera will be embedded in a subtle Dynamic Island-like UI or just sit on its own. But if Apple is truly skipping Face ID here, it would be the first time in years the tech giant has launched a flagship without it.

Cameras, Configurations, and a Price Tag to Match

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s foldable will pack a dual-lens rear camera and front-facing shooters on both the inside and outside displays, allowing for full functionality whether you’re using the device folded or open. That would make it one of the most versatile camera setups on a foldable to date, assuming Apple pulls it off.

Kuo also claims Apple is leaning into Touch ID instead of Face ID to save on internal space, freeing up room for other components. It’s a small shift, but one that signals Apple might prioritize durability and battery life over flashy sensors in this first-gen model.

As of now, hardware is reportedly still being finalized, with Apple expected to lock in key specs by the end of Q2 2025. However, analyst Jeff Pu says the device has already entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn, one of the final steps before mass production, suggesting Apple is further along than it’s letting on.

When Can You Expect It — and How Much Will It Cost?

If Apple sticks to its internal schedule, mass production is likely to kick off in late 2026, with a public release expected late next year. Pricing is said to land somewhere between $2,000 and $2,300, putting it right in line with Samsung’s and Google’s top-tier foldables.

So far, Apple has stayed quiet about its foldable ambitions, but with rumors heating up and prototypes making rounds in the supply chain, the question isn’t if it’s coming, it’s when.
