Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone is looking more real than ever, and a new analyst report just cranked the hype, and the sticker shock, way up. After years of prototypes and behind-the-scenes testing, Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its first foldable iPhone next year as a brand-new top-tier model. And with the latest price estimate coming in far higher than expected, the name “iPhone Ultra” suddenly feels a lot more plausible.

A $2,399 Foldable? New Report Says Yes

Foldables finally seem to be hitting the mainstream. Even Samsung admits it. As Samsung exec Drew Blackard recently put it:

“Now on our seventh generation, we’ve addressed consumer feedback year after year and have arrived at the kind of experience you can’t get on any other device.”

He says the foldable category has matured — and Apple seems poised to take advantage of that moment. With the success of iPhone Air and persistent whispers about Apple developing a near crease-free hinge, it’s clear the company thinks the tech is finally ready.

Rumors until now have suggested Apple’s foldable — often referred to as “iPhone Fold” — would land somewhere around $2,000.

But according to a new report from Fubon Research, that might be wishful thinking.

Fubon Research: Expect a $2,399 Price Tag

Citing supply chain data and Apple’s notoriously high profit margins, the firm believes Apple’s first foldable will hit $2,399, a price that would instantly make it the most expensive iPhone ever by a massive margin.

For context, here’s how it compares to the biggest foldables Apple would be up against:

But the real shock comes when you compare it to Apple’s own lineup. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, currently Apple’s priciest phone, starts at $1,199. If the foldable truly comes in at $2,399, you’re looking at a device that costs double the Pro Max.

And that’s where the name speculation starts heating up.

Why “iPhone Ultra” Now Feels More Likely

I’ve previously floated the idea that Apple might skip “iPhone Fold” entirely and position the device as the ultra-premium flagship, an “iPhone Ultra” that sits above everything else in the lineup.

If the pricing lands anywhere near what Fubon expects, the Ultra branding starts to make perfect sense. A new category. A new tier. A new price ceiling.

And not everyone seems thrilled about that.

One reader summed up what a lot of people are probably thinking:

“I had a Galaxy Phone and loved it. Was really thinking about the Apple foldable and I know you’ll be paying more because it’s Apple, but there comes a point when the price becomes too much for what it does. I think I’ll pass.”

Would You Pay $2,399?

Apple has never been afraid to push into premium territory, but a $2,399 foldable would be a bold step even for them. The big questions now:

  • Would Apple really launch its first foldable at nearly $2,400?
  • Does the “iPhone Ultra” branding land better than “iPhone Fold”?
  • And more importantly, would you actually buy one?

Let me know what you think.
