Apple’s blockbuster Formula 1 movie just crossed a major milestone. After a strong month in theaters, the Apple Original Film has now brought in over $500 million worldwide and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
A Global Hit for Apple and Warner Bros.
Released on June 27, the F1 movie opened to an impressive $145 million weekend, outperforming industry expectations. It has since pulled in around $165 million in the U.S. and a staggering $344 million internationally, bringing the global total to $509 million as of this week.
In fact, within the next few days, the film is expected to outgross all of Apple’s previous original films combined, including titles like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon.
Thanks to strong international support, the movie will even get an IMAX re-release in August, which could push its final box office tally above $550 million. Apple’s break-even point is estimated to be closer to $600 million, given the production and marketing costs but even so, this is a major win.
When Will It Stream on Apple TV+?
While the film is still running hot in cinemas, it’s expected to debut on Apple TV+ in October. That timeline could shift, though, as Apple and Warner Bros. have little reason to rush the streaming release while ticket sales remain strong.
A Rare Theatrical Success for Apple
Despite Apple’s growing presence in film, F1 is one of the few Apple-backed titles to receive a full global theatrical release. The success could shift Apple’s thinking on future launches, though there’s still no indication that the company plans to pivot away from its streaming-first strategy.
Upcoming Apple Original Films like Highest 2 Lowest (starring Denzel Washington) and The Lost Bus (with Matthew McConaughey) are both set to debut directly on Apple TV+, continuing Apple’s current playbook.
Still, with F1 hitting $500 million and climbing, Apple has found itself with a theatrical winner and a future streaming crown jewel.
