Apple Watch Ultra 3: 3 Big Features Coming Later This Year

Let’s be honest, the Apple Watch Ultra hasn’t really seen a major upgrade since the original dropped back in 2022, aside from that slick black titanium version in 2023 (which, don’t get me wrong, looks awesome).

But if you’ve been waiting for something actually new—good news! It looks like this year’s Ultra 3 is finally bringing real upgrades that go beyond just a new paint job.

Here are three big features reportedly coming later this year.

1. High Blood Pressure Detection

We all know health tracking is where the Apple Watch shines, and it looks like the Ultra 3 is about to get even smarter.

According to Mark Gurman, Apple’s high blood pressure detection tech is finally ready for primetime.

But here’s the catch:

You won’t get exact readings like your doctor’s blood pressure cuff (no systolic/diastolic numbers).

Instead, your Ultra 3 will alert you if you’re showing signs of hypertension—kind of like how Apple warns you about irregular heart rhythms or potential sleep apnea.

This has been years in the making, and it could be a game-changer for health-conscious users.

2. Satellite Messaging Without Your iPhone

If you’ve ever dreamed of going fully off-the-grid with just your Apple Watch—this is the upgrade you’ve been waiting for.

The Ultra 3 is expected to add satellite messaging, meaning you’ll be able to send texts even without cell service or Wi-Fi, thanks to Globalstar’s satellite network.

Up until now, this tech has been iPhone-only, but Apple is finally bringing it to the Watch.

No iPhone? No problem.

Lost in the woods? You’re still connected.

This makes the Ultra 3 feel more adventure-ready than ever.

3. 5G Connectivity (RedCap)

Last but not least, the Ultra 3 is reportedly ditching 4G LTE for the first time and moving to 5G RedCap—a low-power version of 5G.

Don’t expect crazy-fast speeds like your iPhone.

But do expect better performance without draining your battery.

Basically, it’s a smart balance between speed and battery life, making your watch even more reliable when you’re away from your phone.

Wrapping Up

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 isn’t official yet, but all signs point to a fall launch, likely alongside the iPhone 16.

And while these aren’t massive design overhauls, they do show that Apple’s doubling down on making the Ultra the ultimate adventure watch.

Better health tracking? Check.

Off-grid messaging? Check.

Faster, more efficient connectivity? Check.

Looks like the wait might finally be worth it.

What’s the one feature you’re hoping Apple surprises us with this year? Let me know!
