Safari to Embrace New Dimension with Spatial Content Support
In a significant move toward advancing web browsing capabilities, Apple’s Safari browser is set to receive a major upgrade that will revolutionize how Vision Pro users experience online content. The tech giant has announced plans to implement spatial photo and video support within Safari, marking another strategic step in Apple’s commitment to immersive technology.

The upcoming feature, slated for release later this year, will empower web developers to seamlessly integrate spatial content into their websites, opening new possibilities for online visual experiences. This development follows Apple’s broader initiative to expand spatial capabilities across its product ecosystem, as evidenced by recent hardware developments in the iPhone lineup.
The journey toward spatial content integration began with the iPhone 15 Pro’s spatial video capturing capabilities and has continued to evolve. The latest iPhone 16 series features a redesigned camera array specifically engineered for spatial content creation, while a recent iOS update has expanded spatial photo capabilities to iPhone 15 Pro devices.
Currently, viewing spatial content on Vision Pro is limited to direct file access through methods such as iMessage, Airdrop, or other sharing protocols. However, Apple recognizes the importance of broader accessibility to drive widespread adoption of spatial content.
During an exclusive interview with PetaPixel, Apple Product Manager Della Huff and Design Team member Billy Sorrentino shared insights into this transformative development. The new functionality will allow websites to embed spatial content that appears three-dimensional to Vision Pro users while maintaining compatibility with traditional viewing methods.
“Once you embedded spatial content, folks who are on Vision Pro are getting spatial and folks who are just looking at it on their laptop see it in two dimensions,” Sorrentino explained. He emphasized the versatility of the technology, adding, “And at the same time, you can create all sorts of photos into spatial photos [in Vision Pro] including old historical photos. You could do this to all your old product reviews, you could to it to World War II photos, video game screenshots… I mean, what’s so cool about this technology is it gives us the ability to take things into that next dimension.”
This enhancement is particularly noteworthy for content creators and website owners. For instance, product reviews featuring iPhone 16 Pro photos could be transformed into immersive experiences for Vision Pro users, while maintaining traditional visibility for other viewers. This dual-compatibility ensures that content remains accessible across all platforms while providing enhanced experiences for Vision Pro users.
The implementation will be facilitated through WebKit updates, with the spatial content support expected to roll out in Safari later this year. This development represents a significant step forward in Apple’s vision for the future of digital content consumption and web browsing technology.
