Apple TV+ has announced that its highly anticipated psychological thriller series, Cape Fear, will premiere on Friday, June 5. The project is a major creative collaboration, executive produced by industry titans Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
The series is a new adaptation inspired by Scorsese’s 1991 film of the same name, which itself was based on the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald. This new take stars Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson.
According to Apple’s official series summary, Cape Fear centers on “happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.” Described as “a tense, Hitchcockian thriller,” the 10-episode series is also positioned as “an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”
The series will debut with its first two episodes on June 5, with new episodes releasing weekly through the season finale on July 31.
The announcement solidifies Apple TV+’s commitment to high-profile, auteur-driven projects, adding a marquee thriller from two of cinema’s most revered directors to its upcoming summer slate.
