Apple ‘Surprise and Shine’ Event Live Blog: iPhone 18 Pro, The Foldable And Apple Watch As It Happens

Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” keynote starts at 10:00am PDT / 1:00pm EDT / 6:00pm BST. We are covering it here as it happens, newest update at the top.

Expect the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, new Apple Watch models and possibly AirPods 5. Prices, pre-order dates and US and UK availability will land here the moment Apple confirms them. If you would rather watch the stream, here is how to do that.

Live Updates

That Is A Wrap, And The Foldable Is Not The Thing You Can Buy This Month

Keynote over. The short version: Apple announced the iPhone Duo, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and AirPods 5.

The Pro models are the ones with a date you can act on. Pre-orders open Saturday 12 September, and they are in shops Friday 18 September. The Duo makes you wait until 23 October. iOS 27 lands on Monday 14 September, ahead of both.

Apple has not published UK pricing yet. It usually appears on the UK store within the hour, and we will add it here when it does.

iPhone Duo Pricing: $1,999 To $3,199, Shipping 23 October

Confirmed, and the entry price is exactly where the eve-of-event reporting said it would be. $1,999 buys the 256GB model. The ladder runs 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, and the 2TB configuration tops out at $3,199.

That ceiling is higher than the $3,000 the pre-event reports pointed at, so the spread across the line is wider than expected, not narrower. Pre-orders open Friday 16 October at 5am PT, with the phone on sale Friday 23 October in the US and more than 70 other countries. Another 28 follow on 30 October.

Colours are Star White and Night Sky. There is no SIM tray in any country, which is a first for a launch model everywhere rather than just the US. Apple Pencil with USB-C is supported on both displays, but not until later this year. Full specs and pricing here.

iPhone 18 Pro Is $1,199 And The Pro Max Is $1,299

The $100 rise everyone braced for landed exactly as briefed. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299, both on 256GB, running up through 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

Colours are burgundy, glacier, silver and black. The variable aperture main camera is real. Apple is claiming up to 24 hours of typical use on the Pro, which matches last year’s Pro Max, and up to 30 hours on the Pro Max itself.

Pre-orders Saturday 12 September, on sale Friday 18 September.

The Duo’s Screens Are Smaller Than Every Leak Said

Worth flagging because we have been repeating the leaked numbers for months. The iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch cover display.

The rumour mill had settled on 7.8 inches and 5.5 inches. Small differences on paper, but the 5.4-inch cover screen is the one that matters day to day, because it decides how often you open the thing at all.

Cameras are a 48MP Fusion Main with 2x telephoto and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. Two rear lenses, as expected. The FaceTime camera sits under the inner display.

The A20 Pro Is The First 2nm Phone Chip, And The Memory Story Matters More Than The Speed

The A20 Pro is on screen, and the headline claim is a manufacturing one. Apple says it is the first high-volume smartphone processor built on TSMC’s 2nm node, the most advanced production silicon anyone is shipping. Only Taiwan can make them today, though Apple repeated its commitment to building some iPhone 18 Pro silicon at TSMC’s Arizona fabs too.

The numbers, briskly: a six-core CPU running up to 20% faster, a seven-core GPU up to 40% faster, and dedicated neural accelerators feeding the Neural Engine. That last part is the actual strategy. Apple is late to AI and has decided to turn that into a virtue by keeping the work on the device and calling it privacy.

The figure worth circling is memory bandwidth, up 50%, on what Apple called the widest memory interface it has ever shipped in an iPhone. It got there by rebuilding the package so the core logic sits side by side with the memory rather than tucked underneath it.

Which is a convenient thing to be good at just now. There is a global memory shortage, every major buyer is scrapping over supply from SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron, and it is the reason Mac and iPad prices went up in June. Getting more out of the memory you can actually secure is not an engineering flex this year. It is a cost strategy.

A New Apple TV 4K Could Finally Get A Modern Chip

The quietest reveal at “Surprise and Shine” might be the most overdue one. A refreshed Apple TV 4K is expected, and the current box has been looking its age for a while now. New hardware means a new processor, and MacRumors, working from pre-release code, reckons we are looking at the A19 or A19 Pro. That is the six-core chip built for the iPhone 17 generation, and it carries an interesting implication: the jump would likely push RAM from 4GB to 8GB or more.

Which is lovely, until you think about what it does to the price. The current model already climbed from $130 to $200 in Apple’s across-the-board increase back in June, and there is no obvious reason to expect this one to land any softer.

What Apple Is Not Announcing Today

Worth setting expectations before the stream starts: there is no standard iPhone 18 this year. Apple has reportedly moved the cheaper models to spring 2027, which makes this the first premium-only September in over a decade. If you were waiting for the affordable one, today is not your event.

The Foldable Is Called iPhone Duo, Not iPhone Ultra

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman emptied his notebook overnight, and the headline detail is the branding. Apple’s first foldable is reportedly called the iPhone Duo, not the iPhone Ultra almost everyone had penned in. He also has it starting at $1,999, in white and dark blue, going on sale as early as October rather than alongside the Pro models. Full detail in our write-up on the iPhone Duo report.

The Live Blog Is Open

Apple takes the stage at 10:00am PDT / 1:00pm EDT / 6:00pm BST from Apple Park.
