Last week, Apple quietly did something it almost never does. It refreshed AirTag 2 nearly five years after the original launched. That alone was unusual. But it may also be a signal.
Because there are three other Apple products that have gone years without meaningful updates. And according to recent reporting, all three could finally be getting attention soon.
Apple Studio Display 2 Could Be Closer Than Expected

The current Apple Studio Display launched back in March 2022. In Apple years, that is ancient. Displays are some of the slowest-moving products in Apple’s lineup, and the situation is even worse if you look higher up the range. The Pro Display XDR has not been touched since 2019.
Still, momentum may finally be building.
The latest reports suggest a Studio Display 2 could arrive sooner than expected, possibly alongside upcoming MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
The rumored upgrades are not subtle. Apple is expected to move to a newer A-series chip, potentially the A19, which would dramatically improve camera processing and on-device features. ProMotion is also rumored, bringing a 90Hz or even 120Hz refresh rate to a display that has felt oddly frozen in time. HDR support is reportedly on the table as well.
A camera upgrade feels inevitable too. The current model’s webcam has never been great, and a Center Stage style camera like those found across Macs, iPads, and iPhones would finally make sense here.
If this happens, the Studio Display would go from functional to genuinely compelling almost overnight.
HomePod Mini 2 May Anchor Apple’s Smart Home Reset

The HomePod mini is another product that has been left behind. It last received an update in November 2020, which makes it over five years old at this point.
Originally, a successor was expected last year. That did not happen. According to multiple reports, delays to Apple’s AI powered Siri caused a chain reaction across its smart home plans. Products that depended on the new Siri simply were not ready.
That includes HomePod mini 2.
Now, with Apple preparing a broader smart home push, this product finally looks ready to move forward. The new model is rumored to include a faster S-series chip, better audio, and support for Apple Intelligence and the next generation of Siri. A second generation Ultra Wideband chip is expected, along with Apple’s newer N1 wireless chip.
There is also talk of new colors, which is a small detail but one Apple tends to use as a signal that something bigger has changed.
A spring launch is the most likely scenario, possibly in March or April, around the rollout of iOS 26.4.
A New Apple TV 4K is Still Coming
The Apple TV 4K sits in a similar position. The current model launched in November 2022, and while that is not as long ago as some other products, Apple TV hardware updates are infrequent by nature.
Like HomePod mini 2, a new Apple TV 4K was rumored for last year and then quietly slipped. Again, Siri’s AI delays appear to be the culprit.
Now, a spring release window is back on the table. The new Apple TV is expected to launch alongside HomePod mini 2 and a rumored new smart home hub often referred to as HomePad.
When it arrives, the upgrades could be meaningful. An A17 Pro chip would bring a big performance jump, especially for games. Apple Intelligence and AI enhanced Siri support are expected. The N1 wireless chip should improve connectivity, and Dolby Vision 2 support is also rumored.
There is one wildcard feature that keeps coming up in reports: a built-in camera. Apple has reportedly tested Apple TV models with cameras for FaceTime and gesture based controls, but it is still unclear whether this will ship in the next version or remain a prototype.
A Pattern Worth Watching
Apple rarely updates these products. That is what makes this moment interesting.
With AirTag 2 now out in the wild, and long neglected devices like Studio Display, HomePod mini, and Apple TV lining up for refreshes, it feels like Apple is clearing a backlog rather than just launching something new for the sake of it.
If even two of these products land in the next few months, 2026 could quietly become one of Apple’s most consequential years for hardware that usually lives in the shadows.
And if you have been waiting to upgrade any of them, the timing might finally be on your side.
